The quickest way: in your browser
This works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone, and needs no app:
- Open the HEIC to JPG converter.
- Choose your HEIC photos or drag them onto the box. You can add many at once.
- Download each JPG, or download them all in one zip file.
The photos are converted on your device and never uploaded, which matters for personal photos. Many other online converters upload your files to their servers to convert them.
On Windows
Windows can open HEIC photos once two free or low-cost extensions from the Microsoft Store are installed: HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions (the HEVC one may cost a small fee). Some PCs come with them already. Then:
- Right-click the HEIC photo and choose Open with → Paint.
- Choose File → Save as → JPEG picture.
- Pick a folder and a name, then click Save.
This converts one photo at a time. For a whole folder, the browser method above is faster.
On a Mac
macOS opens HEIC photos without any extra software.
With Preview, for one photo:
- Open the photo in Preview.
- Choose File → Export.
- Set Format to JPEG, adjust the quality slider if you like, and click Save.
With the Photos app, for several photos:
- Select the photos.
- Choose File → Export → Export Photos.
- Set Photo Kind to JPEG, click Export and choose a folder.
On iPhone or iPad
For photos you have already taken, open the HEIC to JPG converter in Safari, choose the photos from your library and download the JPGs.
To have the iPhone save new photos as JPG, open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos then take more storage space than HEIC.
To keep HEIC on the phone but get JPG when you copy photos to a computer with a cable, open Settings → Photos and under Transfer to Mac or PC choose Automatic.

Frequently asked questions
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
A little, because JPG is a lossy format and the photo is compressed again. At a high quality setting such as 92 the difference is hard to see in normal viewing. Convert to PNG if you need no further loss.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG in bulk?
Yes. The browser converter takes many files at once and can give you a single zip file. On a Mac, the Photos app can export several selected photos as JPEG in one go.
Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?
HEIC stores a photo in a smaller file than JPG at similar quality, so it saves storage space. It is the default when Camera → Formats is set to High Efficiency.
Is it safe to convert personal photos online?
It depends on the site. Many online converters upload your files to a server. The converter on this site runs in your browser, so the photos stay on your device.
