How to convert AVIF to JPG
- Choose your AVIF files, or drag and drop them onto the box. You can add many at once.
- Set the quality with the slider.
- Download each JPG with its button, or use Download all (.zip) when you converted several.
What is an AVIF file?
AVIF is an image format based on the AV1 video codec. It makes small files and is used by many websites, but plenty of editors, apps and upload forms still cannot open it. JPG works almost everywhere.
Your browser decodes the AVIF here. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can open AVIF; if a file fails, update your browser and try again.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The converter is a web page that runs in your browser. Your files are read and converted on your own device and are never sent to a server.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG has no transparency, so they become white.
Why is my JPG bigger than the AVIF?
AVIF compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the same picture usually needs a bigger JPG file. Lower the quality slider if size matters.
Does the converted file keep the photo’s metadata?
No. The new file is drawn from the decoded pixels, so camera details, date taken and GPS location from the original are not copied into it. Keep the original if you need that information.
